Fuji Oil Group discusses its sustainable operations and goals clearly on its website under
sustainability. This is laid out as developing a sustainable society based on the company vision,
which is “creating a sustainable future for food and plant-based ingredients that are both
delicious and healthy.” There are many critical parts to becoming sustainable, with these
principles ranging wide, including impacts, and environmental, social, and economic issues
when discussing sustainability. Companies often use a "triple bottom line” methodology or
framework, which provides guidelines for companies to focus on and become more sustainable.
Firstly, these principles focus on the environmental impact the organization creates, whether
positive or negative. This will ensure that the company's focuses are geared towards a healthy
environmental impact and negates the negative impacts by reducing waste and minimizing
consumption of resources. Looking at Fuji Oil Group's sustainability report for the 2023 year, in
the fiscal year of 2022, water use had a reduction of 27%, a recycling rate of 99.69%, and a
waste reduction of 4.7%. These are all part of the first principle to reduce waste.
The second set of principles is geared towards social impacts on the community in which
the company operates. This is done by taking care of the employees, creating a fair and inclusive
workplace, and maintaining employee well-being. Focusing solely on cocoa production, this can
be seen in their ongoing move to reduce and eliminate child labor on cocoa farms, support the
farmers, and develop the communities. In developing the communities, Fuji Oil has started
building local schools, health centers, and maternity hospitals, as well as providing safe water to
the communities. It also works on building women’s empowerment by offering literary training
courses and special banking institutions developed for the women in these communities. In this
way, Fuji Oil Group is positively impacting the communities by being involved with the
communities, creating work for these individuals, and providing a responsible part in sourcing
materials.
These two principles will firmly impact the operating costs of the company's financial
bottom line. This is through optimization of resource utilization, cost reduction, and improved
efficiency, which contributes to the company's long-term feasibility. Through sustainable
operations this will help continue to reduce costs and minimize risks associated with regulatory
compliance. This will also help improve the company's overall public image, which will enhance
its goals to become more sustainable and make its product readily available to consumers.
Through review of fiscal policies, fiscal year-end reports, and financial highlights of the
company oil group has seen documented growth from the fiscal year of 2020 at 364,779 million
Yen to the fiscal year of 2023, at 564,087 million Yen, the company has seen growth which is
impacted by these policies for sustainability which allows the company to grow. This is taken
into account with the forecasted net sales for the fiscal year of 2024 at 600,000 million Yen.
