Businesses or corporations with the worst reputations are the ones
whose workplace culture is described by employees as stressful,
competitive, or alienating. There are several factors that contribute
to an organization or business implementing this practice. The lack of
teamwork could contribute to a stressful, competitive, and alienated
work environment. Individualism with an attitude that is competitive
to be the best is a common business practice in the United States.
The lack of leadership can create a very stressful work environment.
The business or organization may be lacking cultural diversity, which
would definitely cause alienation. I know firsthand that if the
company has to bid on a contract, it really creates a competitive and
stressful work environment. There may not be a good work-life
balance in the work practices that make for a stressful job. And the
practice of micromanagement makes for stressful, competitive, and
alienating conditions. (Soomo Learning, 2020).
Some potential negative repercussions of the practice on employees,
the local community, or the business or organization would be a high
turnover rate because the discontented employees stop caring about
their production rates and quality of work. A lot of them will
just point out and move on in their quest for a job that treats them
well. When compared to simply treating their employees with
respect, rehiring and training new employees costs the business or
organization a lot of resources. The business or organization will not
attract talented employees, which not only affects the business, but
also the community. If a community has a lot to offer in good
businesses, then talented employees may move into the community.
The employees spend their money in the community and pay local
taxes. Good businesses also attract other highly reputable
businesses, which brings in good money for the community. The
community will then collect tax money and invest it into making the
community inviting for others to move in to raise their families and
spend their money in the community.
