An organization that has outsourced part of its supply chain is IBM. IBM
is a technology organization which by outsourcing has been saving
anywhere from $3 to 5 billion each year. In the source I found that
shows IBM outsourcing explains that “IBM believes that supply chain
optimization and management represent roughly a $23.5 billion market,
larger than any traditional business process outsourcing market
opportunity. As such, it represents a major component of the business
performance transformation services market, above and beyond the
traditional IT market, that IBM is targeting”((IBM Introduces Supply
Chain Outsourcing Offering, 2005). A few of the added benefits of this
organizational shift are improved supplier performance, logistics
savings, improved sales, reduction in company’s inventories, and much
more. The benefits listed above help the organization create value by
streamlining how they do business globally, and seek many
improvements from logistics, direct materials sourcing, and optimizing
their supply chain, what this does for consumer’s is remain a reliable
organization and look at being an optimized and more efficient
organization. the value being added benefits both the organization and
the consumer on a number of fronts.
