• What are the positive and negative impacts of the "Amazon
effect" for customers?
Positive effects of the “Amazon effect” are customer satisfaction.
Customers can retain quicker gratification by getting their products
quicker with less wait time between deliveries. a Online shopping is
increasingly more convenient due to the expectations of quick
delivery caused by the “Amazon effect”. Negatively customers now
have expectations for all retailers and delivery services to provide
quick inexpensive delivery which is not always realistic. a Customers
that do want the in-store experience may now find that there are less
options in stores due to the availability of items online.
• As ethical concerns regarding business practices such as poor
employee treatment, negative environmental impacts of
production, and decreasing use of local storefronts are
recognized, how much, if any, of the responsibility of these
unethical practices fall to the customers, and how much, if any,
falls to businesses?
Ethical concerns fall to both the business and the consumer. a
Although the consumer is the ultimate decision maker on what is
purchased it depends on who has the most power. Responsibility
first falls on the business for creating and maintaining negative
practices to do business and delivering the end-product to the
consumer. If business did not offer these options, then consumers
would not expect it. a Consumers have embraced the expectation of
the “Amazon effect” and have come to depend on the quick cheap
availability of products and often may not even realize the negative
impacts they cause. Consumers have a responsibility to society to
understand what they are buying and how it impacts the world we
live in.
