There are positive and negative impacts the “Amazon effect” has on both customers and
the business itself. Of course, when it comes to the consumer, one of the biggest positives
most people can see is that it is basically a “one stop shop.” It is convenient and easy for
consumers to be able to log in and search for endless possibilities while sitting in their
underwear and drinking coffee. However, the downfall of this is impacting the local
community. There are countless amounts of areas where the community rely on the
businesses located there. The more people shop online, the more brick-and-mortar stores
close due to lack of business. Another negative impact is that people are shopping based
upon a picture. Some consumers may be fine with that, but there are still people out there
that prefer to be able to see the product in person, even touch it, or try it on depending on
what the product may be.
When it comes to the ethical concerns regarding business practices, that is almost a 50/50
split between the consumers and the businesses. How the consumers spend could
determine how a business conducts certain ethical practices. If consumers wish to save
money and buy products at cheaper prices, or online, that can change how a business run.
In order to fulfill the consumers wants/needs, they could treat employees differently, get
materials for products in a less economically friendly way, along with other unethical
practices.
