[There were four stages of cognitive development in which Piaget's theory included. These
stages were the sensorimotor stage, preoperational stage, concrete operational stage, and the

[With a sociocultural approach, Vygotsky realized that children's beliefs and values were

S., 1970). Jamie's mother's reactions to stress, depression, and trauma caused her mother to
form dysfunctional coping mechanisms and substance abuse problems in an effort to avoid
emotional processing. This same avoidance of emotional processing was learned by Jamie as the
appropriate way to deal with her emotions.]

childhood due to the lack of treatment she received as she grew older.]
