In my honest view, private lobbying communication ought to not be protected by the first
amendment. The rights of people, not corporations, are safeguarded by the first amendment.
When you give powerful companies a voice in politics, the government becomes more and more
corrupt. According to the first amendment, Congress is not allowed to pass legislation that
restricts people's right to free expression or other fundamental liberties (Congress.gov, n.d.). If
you carefully study what is written, it speaks about the people, not the companies. Allowing
companies with millions of dollars a voice in election decisions will result in fraud. People often
choose the person they think is best, which leads to the election of the winning candidate. Votes
will be skewed to favor the corporations that donated the most money and require the greatest
advantages when you give that type of authority to businesses and they spend money on a
political committee.
As was previously said, it is risky to give businesses a voice. As opposed to the lower and middle
classes, everyone will listen to those who have millions of money. Freedom of expression needs
to be preserved at the individual and not corporate level, in my opinion. The Tillman Act was
created in 1907 to forbid companies from participating in federal elections, but its flaws
eventually allowed corporations to choose local government officials (Steiner & Steiner, 2011).
Instead of money, the boundary should be drawn at honesty. In order to stop companies from
spending money on municipal elections to choose new governments, restrictions should be
tightened. This will restore the people's right to choose the most qualified candidates for
municipal and federal offices.
Considering the outcome of Workers United, this would provide me with all the resources I
require to grow my firm in the United States. Notwithstanding everything I've said above, my
plan would be to create a commission inside my own company to support the person who
pledges to implement legislation that is most advantageous to the sector I work in. In order to
persuade other businessmen to contribute money to the candidate I favor, I would also include
them in the committee. Our firm will profit from this tactic since it will give us considerable
independence to do more initiatives.
