TV and radio as my traditional marketing methods out of the options. TV and Radio are the most
effective way to reach this audience for baby boomers. I believe this because lots of people in this
generation are in blue-collar jobs, which means listening to the radio while on the way to work or
relaxing and watching tv after work. Local radio stations in the Philadelphia / SJ area advertise local
businesses and many mainstream ones.
For millennials, I think TV is a great way to reach them to market products. Everyone is watching TV
at some point in the day so this is the best way besides social media to get the word around. Gen X
also watch TV but I think things like radio will be far less appealing to them. most of the time while
they are driving they are listening to streamed music so that may be a hard sell. Gen's Y and Z also
may be a hard sell for the radio as well just because they are so young. I think TV would be the
universal application to all ages classes when it comes to advertising.
For TV they have revolutionized the way they advertise now. Things like cookies and data tracking
allow them to produce targeted ads that are related to your purchase history and internet search
history. It's not a coincidence that you look something up on your phone and amazingly see an ad for
it a few hours later in between Hulu commercials. When I see things like this I personally get a little
annoyed because I know the derivative of where it's coming from. But for others, they may think that
it's a good thing or may be happy that an ad for something they like is right in front of them again.
For companies, consumer data analytics is an amazing tool that tells them what they need to know.
Knowing about your customer can allow you to beat them to the next corner because you are aware of
their spending habits. For SEO purposes you want to find a way to reach as many people as possible.
Being top of all major SEO searches is a goal for companies so they can produce more and more
traffic. Also, tapping into the right keywording can make your company more discoverable as well if
people don't search you by name.
The two forms of traditional marketing channels that I chose is TV and Radio. Growing up most home
have either or in their homes. Television was something that brought every family together to watch
their favorite shows this can sometimes occur during dinner or just family gathering to enjoy a
television show. c Radio was the outlet for many to listen and get information from while on their way
to work, school or just at home. These channel were an effective ways for many to know what's going
on out in the world. marketing and advertising were done using these outlets in the different
generations. In the next paragraphs, I’ll be discussing how these channels were effective on the
targeted audiences.
Baby Boomers were born from the year 1946-1964 or the period at the end of world war II. I would
say TV and Radio were how you would get this audience in their days because at the time that was the
best way to get this audience attention from watching TV sitcom which most families were engaged in
to listening to radio, this was an effective and direct way to successfully reach them with whatever
marketing and advertisement there is at the time.
Generation X were born from 1965-1980 they follow suit as well, with this group, Television was
mainly what would be an appealing channel to reach them with TV shows like Brady Bunch, Partridge
family, leave it Beaver and All of my family. I would say in the era Radio was also a great way to
effectively reach out to this audience with effective marketing and advertising.
Millennials also called (Generation Y) were born from 1981-1996, TV is their main interest and shows
watched in this era are Seinfeld, Family Guy, Law and Order, X-files just to mention a few were the
great shows that most homes would always watch and don’t not miss. The millennials are Tech savvy
and play a major role in how Tv shows are being watched these days with live streaming of shows and
network there’s more they do now to get information out to the world and in this era marketing and
advertising is done in a more technology way than what most of the prior generation are used to doing
or hearing. Shows that millennials live stream is HULU, NETFLIX etc. The millennials are constantly
on the move with new ways of marketing and inform people of their next thing to do. c
Generation Z are also technology savvy with much time spent on technology usage with anything they
do highly dependent on technology. So, with these group they spent their greater time with tech
gadgets like Smartphones, Computers, iPad, Tablets. These group are not interested in TV or Radio
but are into these techs mentioned above which is why they are the generations that solo dependent on
tech gadgets for information and to be informed. So, for any marketing or advertising to these
audience technology gadgets would be the most effective channel to get their attention.
Describe one creative or innovative form of traditional marketing you have come across personally.
One creative form of traditional marketing that got my attention was when I received a direct mail
advertisement. The advertising mail was enclosed with a card holder in the mail. This did not
personally influence my purchasing decision or engaged with the company’s marketing, but the
creation was great, and the brand awareness was received and appreciated now.
SEO- Search Engine Optimization- Is a service to business to improve their visibility in search
engines. So how do we apply this to the marketing of our park reopening. We will optimize our
website configuration for content relevancy easier, accessibility of our website content by customers.
We will also make sure we have precise and accurate method to received feedbacks from our
customers. We would also be transparent about our safety measures, have discounts, coupons on the
websites while not overwhelming our consumers with information that would disengage them for the
intent message of our park reopening but rather this information on the websites to attract and draw
them in for reopening. Simplicity and direct information would be crucial and so we will optimize the
information being released on the website to the public thereof.
Consumer Research- Is the process of determining the intent, motivation of buying behavior of the
targeted customers. c Transparency of the safety measures would be exercised to regain our customers
trust and patronage. A poll will be available to received customer feedback of questions and answers
about past and present experiences. Creating of this method will bring traffic to the website and allow
a direct messaging to any questions which will lead to direct communication to our customer base.
Customer survey will be available for instant feedback while park reopens, questions that will help
improve the park operation will be on the list of questions asked of customers. Finally,
Communication of employee to customer will be exercised to allow trust and safety concerns of
customer be addressed with a clear understanding.
Being raised by a baby boomer, that was raised by parents that grew up during the depression, we had
a lot of radio and print in our house growing up. We read the paper daily and listened to the radio for
important news updates. We had limited TV growing up since where I grew up, we were unable to
have cable until 1991; we had antenna, but the reception wasn't great or dependable. As a member of
the Gen X, I still rely heavily on radio, but with the decline of print, I now rely more on TV for my
source of marketing media. For this discussion I will be focusing on TV and Radio.
What is the appeal of each of your chosen channels to these target audiences?
Baby Boomers - born years of 1946-1964 radio was more affordable than a TV at this time and were
in the majority of homes due to the affordability. Today Boomers are more than likely retired or caring
for parents and the use of radio is easier for them as they can listen on the go to news (Creating
Results, 2010), and other forms of advertising or enjoy a pod cast.
Millennials - born years of 1981-1995 they are more likely to use the internet for the "printed" media
needs. They also have more interaction with tablets, cell phones, social media (Zoellers, 2022). This is
an easier, faster way to get their information.
Generation X - born years of 1965-1980 use email for their print, and appreciate the coupon savings
that are included, being children of boomers, they appreciate a good deal. (Sparklight, ND).
Generation Z - This generation 1997-2012 and they have the shortest attention span of just 8 seconds
(Cooper, 2019); and the traditional TV or print isn't going to work with them. They need the new
technology of tiktok videos and youtube, quick and to the point.
Based on your selection, describe one creative or innovative form of traditional marketing you have
come across personally.
How did this creative or innovative approach influence your purchasing decision?
I appreciate marketing that I generally see on TV, so mainly commercials, but they need to have a
point. At the end of an ad if I have to ask myself what that was for, then clearly, I am not their target
market and I didn't understand their campaign. The most recent ad that stands out was for toilet paper,
and honestly I can't remember the brand, I think it was one of the top, either Quilted Northern or Angel
Soft that basically asked if your current TP makes you feel like you used a porcupine, which then
brought back memories of my grandma, because she used the cheapest, roughest TP you could buy. I
literally laughed out load and called my dad, because that was one thing that growing up, he actually
spent money on.
Share two "top" ideas to be considered for marketing the brand connected to Milestone Two in
Module Six.
A few ideas for marketing the amusement park that I think could have an impact are promotional
contests to win free tickets. Another marketing idea was to offer room and foods with local hotels to
drive the customers to stay for multiple days so they spend more money. These could be offered via
email, web page, QFR code, really any digital marketing would work, people, regardless of their
generation will enter contests if they think they can win something.
Include one idea each for the following areas: consumer research and SEO.
Consumer research and our main target being families with kids ages (ages 6-18) I would aim at
targeting social media such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok that all of that age group in currently
using daily. That way when an ad, or promotional program comes up they can enter easily or share
with their parents knowing a trip is on the horizon. c
Outdoor Marketing
Traditional marketing channels are often overlooked in lieu of modern, online marketing. However,
consumers feel bombarded with the quantity of online advertising and marketing messages, which
results in advertising fatigue. According to an article regarding outdoor advertising, “68% of
consumers claim their purchasing decisions are made while in the car” (Nguyen, 2021). These types
of marketing channels can appeal to everyone from Baby Boomers down to Generation Z, with some
variations on types of outdoor advertising. Baby Boomers are accustomed and more trusting of
billboards, which became more popular in the last four decades, and reaching them with familiarity is
key (bMedia Group, 2019). Generation X are “used to technology, but not technology natives” and are
quite receptive to various forms of outdoor advertising (Kelley, 2016). Both Millennials and
Generation Z have short attention spans and would benefit from outdoor digital advertising, such as
digital billboards. Digital billboards display videos and animations, and are more eye-catching
(Nguyen, 2021). Outdoor advertising is an experience and a breath of fresh air from the relentlessness
of online advertising.
TV Marketing
Despite the impact of streaming services, a Nielsen report stated that “streaming makes up only 26%
of all time spent on TV” and network and cable TV are still holding strong (Bursztynsky, 2021). This
is a great way to reach all generations. For Millenials and Generation Z, it is more important to design
ads for streaming services, however, with 70% of streaming subscribers between ages 18-34 (Stoll,
2021). Clearly, this avenue of traditional marketing channels will continue to be an excellent choice
across generations.
Always: Like a Girl Campaign
A marketing campaign with staying power that I experienced was the Always, Act Like a Girl
campaign. Always created a short video where young adults were asked to do different things “like a
girl” such as fighting and running. It was somewhat silly at first, but when young girls were told to do
the same actions, they were confident and strong (The Drum Team, 2016). Always helped turn “like a
girl” into empowerment, and I remember the effect that it had on me, and how women are standing up
to sexist ideologies. The emotional impact that this message had generated a feeling of trust in
Always, and of being seen, and heavily influenced my decision to purchase from the brand.
SEO and Consumer Research
Consumer research is essential in building a successful SEO strategy (SEO for Growth, 2017). A
focus group would be an excellent way to create a dialogue and ask open ended questions. We can
promote free annual passes in exchange for participation in the focus group on our social media and
website. Once we have a firm understanding of our primary and secondary audience, particularly what
they are searching for, we can formulate our SEO strategy. This will also illustrate our content gap,
which is the difference between what our customers are searching for, and what they find online (SEO
for Growth, 2017). This will give us inspiration for compelling content, which should center around
safety and excitement. Key considerations for our SEO strategy would be ensuring that we are on the
first page of Google for a number of keyword searches, and that we have a variety of content to suit
our primary and secondary audience. It will not matter if we have key words such as theme park or
amusement park that will lead them to our site if we do not give them a reason to stay.
