Television:
▪ Baby Boomers
▪ While the television was invented long before the time of the Baby Boomer, the
heightened popularity of the television and it becoming a popular household item
fall in line with the Baby Boomer era. This means that the usage of the TV is familiar
to Baby Boomers and is something they likely utilize often.
▪ Millennials
▪ Millennials tens to gravitate towards other pieces of technology such as computers
and cell phones but had interest in TV at younger ages prior to popular availability
of other options. This group also is less likely to watch traditional TV with the
options of Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming platforms.
▪ Generation X
▪ Gen X is the group that would have been in the prime of the use of the television.
More channels were available, more shows were being created and aired, and TV
was available 24 hours a day. Informercials and sitcoms were popular.
▪ Generation Z
▪ This generation is the height of the internet craze and the usage of smart phones.
TV is far less popular with this group than older generations but not as obsolete as
it is with Millennials. This generation is fast paced and gets a lot of their purchase
information from social media.
Radio:
▪ Baby Boomers
▪ Over 75 percent of Baby Boomers listen to the radio, this is more than any other
generational cohort. They also tend to listen to NPR or talk radio as a form of
entertainment.
▪ Millennials
▪ Millennials utilized the radio early on but saw the changes in the music industry
and no utilize smart phones or streaming apps for music that only occasionally, if at
all, have advertisements.
▪ Generation X
▪ Generation X is the generational group that listen to the most music channels on
the radio as opposed to talk radio. There are still advertisements for general radio
stations so this group would probably hear a radio ad more often than other
groups.
▪ Generation Z
▪ Generation Z uses streaming devices and apps and their cell phones for music,
podcasts, audio journals, and other tech driven options rather than traditional
radio.
Creative Advertising
When it comes to creative advertising, I have to say something witty and truly humorous is more
likely to catch my attention and plant an idea for a later time. Funny slogans or jingles or a great
commercial that makes me laugh out loud is where my attention will go. Even ads that ride that
line of being absolutely ridiculous but just enough to make you remember, such as AXE or
Budweiser “Dilly, Dilly”.
Consumer Research
Surveys that go directly to actual customers and are easily completed is the most efficient and
accurate way to collect data about customer experience, concerns, and complaints. This could be
done as a text sent out to ticket purchasers with each ticket sale, a QR code located on signs in the
park and on the website, and a link on the website and social media used by the amusement park.
Search Engine Optimization
Younger generations are most likely those who are targeted by advertisements for the amusement
park. These groups are more technology driven and utilize social media, email, and apps.
Marketing can create a catchy advertisement that will pop up based on area of search, topic of
search, and location to target these generations with the promise of safety and fun.
