The leadership behavior that I ranked the lowest, coming in at 36, was Model the Way.
What does Model the Way mean to me? I interpret this as simply walking the walk. Practice
what I preach and show others I care about what I stand for. Kouzes and Posner describe this as
“you clarify values by finding your voice and affirming shared values and set the example by
aligning personal actions with shared values (Kouzes & Posner, 2021).” I would agree with that
description and add to the importance of this when it comes to leading others.
To lead others, leaders need to understand where they are going. This could be
metaphorical because it is not a physical location but a common goal or value that the
organization wants to achieve. Aligning and acting on your values with your employees gives the
workforce a sense of direction. Conversely, unsuccessfully identifying and aligning your values
will produce poor results in leading others. How would a leader expect others to follow their
