I was looking at options for this discussion on the web and a couple of articles listed game
designer as an IT job. This was an option that I was looking into before I chose data
analytics, both include an interest in problem solving. At the time I didn’t think of it as
being in the IT field but after reading more about being a game designer I realized why it
is. There is a big artistic component to game design, but the job also requires interest in
technology and computer science. There are three disciplines in game design: Game
Artist, Game Designer or Game Programmer (Greenspan, n.d.). If you get more into the
programming side of game design, you could work on creating the software that enables
users to interface with the game environment (Shally-Jensen, 2016). That role would fall
under the computer/software engineering and development umbrella. According to indeed
the main duties of a game designer include “writing codes for video games using
programming languages, testing and finding potential fixes for early versions of games and
managing multiple project teams to build entertaining video games” (Game designer job
description, 2022). Some other responsibilities for this role are to use computer programs
to designand illustrate graphics, develop concepts and storyboards, enhance the user
experience, and staying up to date on software systems and other useful tools (Shally-
Jensen, 2016).
