For financial implications, non-profit hospitals differ financially in the
aspect that they are obligated to treat any patient with any sort of
condition that comes in (Are Non-Profit, 2022). It doesn’t matter
what finances the patient has or what kind of health care coverage
they have, the hospital must treat them. Hospitals that are for-profit
have the choice of choosing to treat or not treat a patient if they are
not financially able to pay for their treatment (Are Non-Profit, 2022).
If the patient has a threatening condition, the hospital may treat the
patient, even if the patient does not have the financial means (Are
Non-Profit, 2022). Non-profit hospitals also have lower costs for the
same treatments as for-profit hospitals (Are Non-Profit, 2022).
For business implications, non-profit hospitals are involved with
community service aspects and different charities (Are Non-Profits,
2022). Non-profit hospitals don’t focus as much on income, and
instead focus on how to improve the hospital building and improve
the environment for staff and patients (Are Non-Profits, 2022). Non-
profit hospitals make sure that their staff is taken care of and have
many different programs available for community work. For-profit
hospitals have more policies and regulations that they must follow,
and focus a lot more on the income part of the organization.
If a for-profit organization was built within the community, this could
make it overall more difficult for the community financially. The costs
can be higher for treatments, and patients would have to have a
certain financial status and healthcare coverage to be able to be
treated. The financial benefits of an academic facility would be that
the organization focuses on a smaller range of services, generating a
greater income than non-profit organizations.
