AccordingtotheFrontierTechnologyQuarterly(2019),gene

technologyisusefulforfindingsolutionstodiseasecontrol,

preventionandcure.Formorecomplexdiseaseslikeheartdisease,

asthma,diabetesandcancer,geneticmanipulationprovidesa

foundationforresearchthatisunprecedented.Onechallengeofthis

medicaltechhoweveristhatitisveryexpensiveandthereforemay

notbeavailabletoeveryone.TheFrontierTechnologyQuarterly

(2019)statesthatitcancostbetween$373,000to$1millionper

yeartoutilizegenetherapiesforrarediseases.Althoughthese

therapiescanhelpchangethefaceofmedicineinthenext5years,it

islimitedbythenumberofpeopleitcanservebecauseofitscost,

andcanonlybeaccessibleinthiscasetothewealthierpopulation.

Ialsochosetoanalyzecryogenicsleepasanemergingmedical

technologyinthenext5years.AccordingtoNuwer(2016),should

cryogenicsleepprovetobesuccessfulinthenext5years,itwould

beviewedsimilartoanyotherformofmedicine,inthesensethatit

canbeusedforindividualswhoareseverelysick.Thepreservationof

thebodymayalsoprovideprolongedtimeforpeoplewhoaresick,

wherethetimecanbeusedtofindabettercureorsolutiontotheir

illness.However,amajorconcernforindividualswhowakeupfrom

cryogenicsleepistheirabilitytoadapttothechangesintheirworld

andlives.Nuwer(2016)suggeststhattheseindividualswill

immediatelybegintofacechallengesin“rebuildingtheirlivesas

strangersinastrangeland,”whichcancauseseverelypsychological

stress.Ibelievethattherewouldneedtobeaproperreintegration

programinplacespecializedfortheseindividualsthatoffersboth

medical,mentalhealthandotherhumanservicesresources.

AccordingtoAliuandChung(2012),“evidence-based

diagnosisisequallyasvitalasevidence-basedinterventionand

treatment,”anditislikelythatadifferentprocedurewouldprovidea

diagnosisinamoreexpedientandcost-effectiveway.Ifaproblemis

moreaccuratelydiagnosed,thentheremaybelessharminflictedon

thepatient.AliuandChung(2012)statethatthestakeishighfor

evaluatingdiagnosticaccuracybecauseinaccuratediagnostictests

canresultin“ill-conceivedpolicyrecommendationsthataffectmany

patientsandcoldleadtomoreinvasiveproceduresbasedonbiased

data.”Accuratediagnosisofpatientsfacilitatesotherdecision-

makingwhenitcomestocreatingthemostoptimaltreatmentplans.
