John Muir Health Medical Center is a nonprofit hospital with two locations, Walnut creek
and Concord California. John Muir Health Medical Center also has many outpatient clinics
located throughout the Bay Area. The Walnut Creek location is the only trauma center in Contra
Costa County and houses about 555 beds (John Muir health company profile: Walnut Creek, CA:
Competitors, Financials & Contact, 2020). Both hospitals have been ranked very highly by the
U.S. News & World Report in its 2020/2021 list of America’s Best Hospitals (John Muir Health,
n.d.). John Muir Hospital is named after an influential naturalist, John Muir who is known as the
activist who helped preserve Yosemite Valley National Park and many others. He believed in
preserving and protecting nature not only for wildlife, but also for the wellbeing of humans

John Muir Health Medical Center’s mission states as follows “We are dedicated to improving
