b Music is an expression that is powerful enough to break through
cultural and social barriers. Music can bring awareness and unite
people, even reaching across the globe. In 1983 there was a
devastating famine across Ethiopia, an African country (Benitez-Eves,
2022). In 1985,Forty-six of the biggest names in music gathered
together to record a song called “We are the world.” In hopes of
raising awareness and money through a meaningful message, the
profits of the original recording have helped raise more than 60
million dollars to assist those affected by the famine since 1985
(Benitez-Eves, 2022). This group of musicians acted and promoted
the importance of physical well-being through song. We cannot
achieve total wellness without our basic needs being met. The
cultural expression brought about social change in the United States
and funding to increase physical health in Africa.
b b b The social message is that there are people in need, and we
should help in any way we can. Food is a basic need of all humans,
and we can relate no matter where we are in the world, bring
awareness, and show empathy. The social implication is that
regardless of our geographical location, we have the responsibility to
help humankind and promote global wellness. We can make a more
significant impact working together.
