A few weeks ago we looked through the historical lens. I decided to
write about the unification around civil rights that happened during the
Covid-19 lockdowns. In LA we had huge marches around the city
fighting for racial equality and treatment. Looking at this topic through
the social science lens can be complicated in some ways.
Unfortunately, there can be some biases that individuals have that can
stall progression talks. However, the social science lens can help us
analyze the benefits that society has when individuals feel as though
there is equality across the board. It can help individuals in harder
situations to feel like there is hope rather than just doom in their lives.
Using all the lenses that we have learned about can strengthen our
analysis. Especially though the humanities and historical lenses, seeing
the fights that happened for equal rights and expansion of programs to
ensure them have helped struggling aspects of society. It is easier to see
as we continue to expand equality throughout history that not only
have specific individuals benefited but society as a whole has.
