In this course I have talked about we have explored wellness through
the lenses of history, the humanities,
and the natural and applied sciences. In this module, you will wrap up
your draft of Final Look back over the topics you chose to discuss in
previous discussions, select one, and reexamine it now through the
social sciences lens. In your initial post, address the
following:
A child relies on their parents and the environment for nutrition.
Understanding that childhood habits may become adult patterns that
have long term effects such as diabetes. Over the years child obesity
continues to grow and be of concern as cases have
tripled (Flam, F. (2013). The social lens has allowed me to understand
that the child is has outside factors that cause the
obesity. If the child is a derivative of a low-income family, they may not
have a fresh produce store within miles from their home.
Low-income families may also have safety concerns in their
neighborhoods not allowing for safe passage in the community.
The history lens allows for understanding of how childhood obesity
affects the individual. History is great as it tells a story of past, present
and future. The social science lens brings together how the
environment has an impact on the information gathered from the
history lens.
