1. Introduce yourself to the class by sharing as much as you feel comfortable
sharing, such as your preferred name, pronouns, where you are from, and
your major.
Hello, my name is Nathanial (Nate) Kelly. I am a disabled Army vet. I have three
children. My son (Landon, 18) just recently graduated high school. I have my
middle child (Audri, 13) and my youngest (Averi, 10). I live in Michigan. I am
on my last two classes before I graduate with my bachelor’s in human services. I
am starting in November on my master’s in child psychology and development.
I currently do not work due to my disabilities/injuries from my deployment.
Hoping that once I finish my masters, I can be able to work in the human services
field. I am an avid gamer, love cornhole, and just relaxing.
2. In your own words, define the term wellness and discuss how it is used or
impacts your daily life and/or community. How does your definition
compare with those presented in the readings?
To me the term wellness means taking care of one’s well-being. Whether it be
mentally or physically. Unfortunately, my wellness is altered with my injuries
and mental status. I do not let that define my character, as I am slowly trying to
get my “wellness” in order. My definition is like the actual meaning. Per Pfizer,
wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits daily to attain better physical and
mental health outcomes, so that instead of just surviving, you are thriving,
(Pfizer, 2022, para 1).
3. What is the influence of wellness on your chosen field of study or
profession? How can you use your understanding of wellness in your life?
In the human services field, our job is to protect, advocate, and support our
client’s well-being. The client being a minor or adult. We are to keep them from
any physical harm and mental frustrations. As for using my understanding of
wellness in my life, I am doing my best. It is hard when I am limited to certain
things I can do and when mentally I am struggling.
