HUM 200 Speakers Notes for Course Project Two:
The two pieces of art, as previously said, share the same topic despite appearing to be from
different periods, locales, and creative forms. They both share the same concept, which is
Christianity. Given that the humanities deal directly with more than only the study of religion,
this is one of the linkages to them that is most clear. However, it also deals with the study of the
arts, which includes the two objects I have picked, in addition to religion. We must look at what
each work of art is portraying in order to comprehend how Christianity relates to it. Evidence
will be provided during this presentation to demonstrate the relationship between the works and
Religion.
Christianity in particular is a significant and profound aspect of religion. Not just to those who
follow it, but also throughout history; notable works of art and conflicts have both been
attributed to Christianity. Without a doubt, the absence of Christianity would drastically alter
both our daily lives and our civilizations, maybe for the better. Like any other religion, even
though Christianity isn't practiced by everyone, it still has an influence that has to be understood.
The Lamentation's relationship to Christianity is rather clear, and it doesn't take much
comprehension to grasp how the two are related. The Lamentation portrays what happened after
Jesus Christ was crucified or killed. His body is being cradled by his sobbing devotees, and there
are bereaved angels all around him. To comprehend the Four Horsemen's relationship to
Christianity, though, needs some investigation. The Book of Revelations, which is found in the
New Testament of the Bible, is where the idea of The Four Horsemen truly comes from. The
actual Four Horsemen are Death, Conquest, War, and Famine, and they are shown in the item
under observation in that order. The Four Horsemen and their appearance in Christian Scripture
typically signal the start of "Judgement Day," also known as Christ's second arrival. The Four
Horsemen are embodied in the item we are looking at, and they are all riding horses as they walk
over a throng of people while an angel glides above them. Both of these two relics show events
or scenes that had a significant influence on Christianity. Both of these represent a new phase or
concept in the religion. The events that would lead to Christ's second coming, when the
dedicated would be welcomed as one of his "children," and admitted into heaven, are depicted in
the other, while the first portrays Jesus's sacrifice to atone for our transgressions.
My entire life has been surrounded by Christianity and will continue to be surrounded by it. I
spent around seven years of my childhood attending a Christian school and was a devout
Christian. I don't practice Christianity right now, but I have family members that do, so it's
always around me. I've always been interested in Christianity and how it relates to the arts. I
really adore how significant Bible scenes are portrayed in artwork. I've always been astonished
by how different artists and civilizations interpret these very significant situations. The two items
I selected are the same. The idea of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the various ways
that they have been personified have also always fascinated me.
It is crucial for us to comprehend and study the humanities if we want to comprehend other
people. Even though I was a practicing Christian, as I had previously indicated, it was still
challenging for me to comprehend some of the opinions and viewpoints that Christians publicly
hold. For the first time in years, though, I was able to open my mind and my curiosity to
Christianity and its ideas as a result of this investigation. I try to be as receptive as I can to
learning other religions, but it has been challenging to do so in light of recent events that mostly
included Christians or those who claimed to be Christians. Nevertheless, even though I have no
plans to join this religion, conducting the study has made me want to comprehend and learn more
about it. This is a significant justification for why learning the arts should be given priority.
It is crucial for us to comprehend and study the humanities if we want to comprehend other
people. Even though my talk is about Christianity and art, it can be applied to any topic that is
studied as part of the humanities. Understanding and studying the humanities enables us to
broaden our thinking and viewpoints in ways that we may not have been able to do in the past.
Nowadays, it's quite simple to become mired in a tunnel vision of what we'd prefer to hear or
see, especially when it comes to our worldviews. Studying the humanities, however, enables us
to more easily understand the perspectives that other people may have due to factors like
spirituality. It enables us to observe firsthand how other people's lives may be impacted by their
culture or their faith.
