HUM 200 Project Part One Rough Dra Guidelines and Rubric
Overview: Now that you have chosen your arfacts and idened the common theme, you will develop a dra of your exploraon document. Over the course
of Theme: Examining the Humanies and Theme: Impact of the Humanies, you will walk through each step in the Soomo webtext and have an opportunity to
incorporate instructor feedback before subming your nal version of the exploraon document at the end of Theme: Impact of the Humanies.
Prompt: Analyze your two chosen arfacts. Then, idenfy a common theme and compare your examples to one another as expressions of the same theme in
dierent cultural arfacts. To document your analysis and research, you will develop a reference list. In preparaon for the presentaon you will develop in
Theme: Human Culture, you will also consider how you would present your research to a specic audience.
Specically, the following crical elements must be addressed:
I. Describe the cultural arfacts that you chose. Consider quesons such as these in your response: What is the name or tle of the arfact? Who is the
author or arst? What is the date or me period when the arfact was created? What is the cultural locaon or physical seng of the arfact? In
addion, you could consider including a photograph or image of each cultural arfact, if they are visual arfacts.
II. Idenfy at least one that will serve as the framework of your exploraon document. How is the theme expressed in your arfacts? common theme
III. Explain how the theme you idened is related to your personal experience. For instance, you could discuss how the expression of the theme in your
cultural arfacts is connected to you personally.
IV. Discuss a that could be impacted by the theme you idened. In other words, how is the theme you idened related to professional profession
experiences? How could a working knowledge of the humanies be useful in this eld?
V. Describe at least three humanies resources that you could use to invesgate your theme and arfacts. Your sources must be relevant to your theme
and of an appropriate academic nature. In your descripon, consider quesons such as the following: What are the similaries and dierences in the
content of your sources? What makes them appropriate and relevant for invesgang your issue? What was your thought process when you were
searching for sources? How did you make choices? Did you encounter any obstacles and, if so, how did you overcome them? If you did not, why do you
think it was so easy to nd what you needed?
VI. Use the humanies resources that you selected to research your theme and cultural arfacts, making sure that you cite your sources. Based on your
research, do the following:
A. Discuss the relaonship between each cultural arfact and its historical context. In other words, what were the circumstances under which each
arfact was created?
B. Explain the similaries and dierences that you observe in the cultural arfacts you selected, in relaon to the theme. For instance, do the
arfacts contain any symbolism? If so, how are the symbols both similar and dierent? What do the symbols tell you about each arfact?
C. Discuss the such as literature, music, or sculpture through which your cultural arfacts were created. For instance, how did the medium— —
creator or creators of each arfact use the medium to convey something about the meaning of the arfact?
VII. Based on your research, develop a thesis statement that conveys the claim you plan to make about your theme and arfacts. Your thesis statement
should be clear, specic, and arguable.
