By observing the humanities, it will help me in a positive way in regards to my current career
because it allows me to see things in a manner that is "outside the box." I can utilize the
information I have learned to really look at something from different angles to see different
versions. For example, I currently work for a school district and serve on different internal
committees in which several of the members all have differing ideas and thoughts on how things
should go in our schools. By having learned about the humanities, I am able to take those
discussions and think beyond my own personal thinking and understand better why another
person might see something different and to see why they may have a different feeling than I. The
humanities can be greatly beneficial to my future professional career in communications. They
allow me to better understand my target audience and how I can alter my message in order to
relate to them more. The humanities have also helped me more aptly comprehend the human
experience. Through this course, I have learned a lot about the human experience, and
communicating with others is a large part of that. Being knowledgeable about the humanities will
assist me in understanding people better and being able to convey my message in an appropriate
way in my future career. Overall, the humanities have helped me to develop further insight on
how to properly convey messages in many formats as well as how to relate and connect with my
target audience. First, let us start by saying that humanities are relevant because they cover many
aspects of the world, such as art, music, culture, films, and many other disciplines. When thinking
about applying the humanities into my profession, a few things come to mind, for example, the
multicultural environment at work nowadays, empathy toward employees and workers, and
Fairness and equality at work. The humanities teach us to question the world around us through
language, history, and culture. For instance, I have a co-worker who seems rude and uneducated
at first glance. Through the study of this class, I have learned how to communicate with her and
ask questions about her behaviour in a polite and empathic way. Which has opened my mind to
understand that it is not that she is impolite is just that she was born and raised in Japan, which is
a very disciplined culture. On the contrary, I was born in an amicable culture, thus helping me
acknowledge and accept that we do not have a bad relationship. Still, we have cultural differences,
making it easier for both of us to express ourselves respectfully. The humanities foster social
justice and equality; applying humanities into this branch at work would be an extraordinary step
in changing politics to Fairness at work. For example, we have seen more than once people get
promoted based on who they know and how much their superiors like them, rather than being
promoted based on their qualifications. This part of humanities would allow companies to build a
less toxic workplace. The humanities also teach us how to handle complex problems critically and
logically, they teach us how to question different situations, and they also teach us how to think
creatively to achieve our goals and aspirations. I believe the relevance of humanities is significant
in a professional environment, where I can go on and on with examples. Still, unfortunately, I must
stop typing my mind away! I believe that humanities are relevant in our everyday lives. The study
of society and culture is fundamental to humanities and something we take part in every day. The
decisions we make today will have a lasting impact on the generations of tomorrow. Having
knowledge of other cultures and our history as humans is to understand how we are here today.
This type of education teaches you to investigate something deeply and get different perspectives
on a subject. Having an open mind is important so you do not overlook things which will lead to a
greater appreciation.
This will be helpful in my degree working in the engineering field so ideas are well-thought-out
and nothing is overlooked. Engineering is about constant improvement and collaboration with
others in order to complete a task. I believe from what I have learned in humanities, that I will
take more time to put thought into what I am doing but also why I am doing it. As well as getting
others perspectives that will allow me to make improvements that I did not see myself.
Understanding Humanities, I believe affects every job in some way. Every person must interact
with other people in some way. We do this in person or not in person. If you can better
understand the why that people are then you can better interact with them. I know personally
understanding someone that is different means I can do my job better than if I did not have that
knowledge. I must understand multiple cultures in order to communicate the most effective way
to help my patients. I work nights so the resources available are limited. I also must do this as
quickly as I can because I know people are not in the hospital for fun. I have learned over the
years to notice subtle body language in order to help those that cannot communicate in any other
way. I know that most jobs were interpersonal interaction is involved it takes a lot of time to
become exceptionally good at quickly understanding other cultures. Frontline workers benefit
from studying Humanities as it helps them have better compassion. It also helps them to see from
different perspectives. This allows for better care to be given and to do so in a timelier fashion. I
think that this will make it so that more people can be helped. I find that the more I learn to
about humanities I can find good things that each patient can focus and discuss with me. This
makes their time go faster and better in the hospital.
