My field of study is business. I feel as if learning the humanities and using them properly will allow
me to do my job well. The specific degree I would like to achieve is Business Administration. Seeing
that in this field I will be dealing with different people from different backgrounds, it will be
necessary to know the perspective of humanities. I think with the knowledge I will obtain from this
course it will have a major impact on my career. It will give me the ability to communicate better
with others and allow me to look at things from a different perspective before reacting. Through the
trials and tribulations in this course thus far, I believe the perspective of the humanities will have a
positive impact on my future professional career because it helps to expand my knowledge of
different human cultures through many forms of art and experience. My future professional career as
an FBI special agent, I will be amongst all walks of life, experiencing different countries and cultures,
religions, and ways of living. Humanities broadens my horizons on how to access different cultures
and learn life through different lenses. For example, for the first year of my training, it is mandatory
for all new recruits to work at the home office in Washington, DC, afterwards I will be placed in a
field office out of one of two places, Madrid, Spain or Moscow, Germany, both have vastly different
cultures and governments they follow. Having a high insight on the humanities will help me open
myself to learning these cultures and digest the differences.
Humanities play a central role in my career in the most simple but impactful way; See, to understand
the humanities is to understand different people, different cultures, and different perspectives. In my
line of work, it is extremely important to possess knowledge in these areas because we rely heavily
on teamwork and communication. The concepts are very simple and easy to understand, but in the
implementation of these concepts lies the challenge. Through the knowledge of the values that
different sub-cultures possess and the problem-solving skills that each person brings to the table, a
team can work more cohesively in the accomplishment of tasks. Hello everyone! My career is
directly related to the humanities so it will have a positive impact. I am an actor, specifically focused
on musical theatre. My job is to convey a story to the audience so I use the humanities to help me.
When I receive a script, I really look at it and think about what the author wanted the audience to feel.
This helps me tell the story in the best way. The techniques we used in this class to look at art is the
same techniques I use in the rehearsal process. Since my career is very focused in the humanities, I
would be very interested to hear from others who careers may be less connected to the humanities.
Utilizing the humanities perspective in my career and future business' endeavours encourages me to
be a better employee and coworker now, as well as a better business owner and employer later.
Trying to understand people on a human level, as equals, and carrying humanity for others in my
work ethic makes me more approachable and will make others more comfortable with me. Being an
approachable employer is important and having employees that feel heard and understood is key. I
work for AAA Northeast, a subsidiary of one of the biggest and well-known organizations around,
and they pride themselves on putting their employees first, it is even a part of our in-house safety
acronym, EMS (Employee Safety, Member Safety, Service. This plays a key role in what makes
AAA thrive, and that idea applies to any business', trying to understand people on a more human
level and getting to know them as more than just a face but as an individual, makes you a better
employee or employer. I think using the perspectives of humanities in my future professional career
can have a positive impact because it brings all cultures and people together. It teaches us about
history from all over the world at all different points in time and gives people exposure to different
things. It also helps enhance our critical thinking by teaching us how to ask the right questions and
express our opinion in different ways and gives us confidence in our words and perspective. I think it
helps us better realize not only who we are but who other people are, and makes us appreciate and
accept our differences.
Just as Steve Jobs was able to use his skills acquired by working with humanities to positively impact
his professional career, the same can be done for individuals who have similar experiences. For
instance, an individual can obtain the skill to translate their work so that someone who does not have
as much experience can understand the subject matter as well. Another example would be the ability
to ensure that customers have positive experiences with products, or even how to create an emotional
reaction with customers through advertisements. Furthermore, communication with colleagues,
managers, and customers can be enhanced through the practice of recognizing which audience one
needs to address and how to effectively change their style of communication to create a better
workplace environment (Steineger, 2017).
The perspective of the humanities has a positive impact on all career paths. The perspective of the
humanities helps us on a more personal level than many other things do. Humanities helps teach us
the ability to understand things by looking closer, rather than just taking things as they are. I think
this will help me in any career path I go down, by giving me the knowledge to better understand
people and situations. Honestly, I believe humanities helps to just give us a better outlook on the
world, through understanding and analysing. The humanities are very important in really any career
path. Understanding people and arts can help you dig deep and have a stronger career in my opinion.
For me, I have studying sports management where I will be working with people and athletes. With
skills and understanding that I have picked up from learning the humanities, I will be able to think
outside the box and do things differently hopefully presenting something new that people have not
already seen. With the sports industry being so competitive, being more well-rounded and having the
ability to look at things from different perspectives with be very beneficial.
I feel that by observing the humanities, it will help me in a positive way in regards to my current
career because it allows me to see things in a manner that is "outside the box." I can utilize the
information I have learned to really look at something from different angles to see different versions.
For example, I currently work for a school district and serve on different internal committees in
which several of the members all have differing ideas and thoughts on how things should go in our
schools. By having learned about the humanities, I am able to take those discussions and think
beyond my own personal thinking and understand better why another person might see something
different and to see why they may have a different feeling than I. The humanities can be greatly
beneficial to my future professional career in communications. They allow me to better understand
my target audience and how I can alter my message in order to relate to them more. The humanities
have also helped me more aptly comprehend the human experience. Through this course, I have
learned a lot about the human experience, and communicating with others is a large part of that.
Being knowledgeable about the humanities will assist me in understanding people better and being
able to convey my message in an appropriate way in my future career. Overall, the humanities have
helped me to develop further insight on how to properly convey messages in many formats as well as
how to relate and connect with my target audience. First, let us start by saying that humanities are
relevant because they cover many aspects of the world, such as art, music, culture, films, and many
other disciplines. When thinking about applying the humanities into my profession, a few things
come to mind, for example, the multicultural environment at work nowadays, empathy toward
employees and workers, and Fairness and equality at work. The humanities teach us to question the
world around us through language, history, and culture. For instance, I have a co-worker who seems
rude and uneducated at first glance. Through the study of this class, I have learned how to
communicate with her and ask questions about her behaviour in a polite and empathic way. Which
has opened my mind to understand that it is not that she is impolite is just that she was born and
raised in Japan, which is a very disciplined culture. On the contrary, I was born in an amicable
culture, thus helping me acknowledge and accept that we do not have a bad relationship. Still, we
have cultural differences, making it easier for both of us to express ourselves respectfully. The
humanities foster social justice and equality; applying humanities into this branch at work would be
an extraordinary step in changing politics to Fairness at work. For example, we have seen more than
once people get promoted based on who they know and how much their superiors like them, rather
than being promoted based on their qualifications. This part of humanities would allow companies to
build a less toxic workplace. The humanities also teach us how to handle complex problems critically
and logically, they teach us how to question different situations, and they also teach us how to think
creatively to achieve our goals and aspirations. I believe the relevance of humanities is significant in
a professional environment, where I can go on and on with examples. Still, unfortunately, I must stop
typing my mind away! I believe that humanities are relevant in our everyday lives. The study of
society and culture is fundamental to humanities and something we take part in every day. The
decisions we make today will have a lasting impact on the generations of tomorrow. Having
knowledge of other cultures and our history as humans is to understand how we are here today. This
type of education teaches you to investigate something deeply and get different perspectives on a
subject. Having an open mind is important so you do not overlook things which will lead to a greater
appreciation.
This will be helpful in my degree working in the engineering field so ideas are well-thought-out and
nothing is overlooked. Engineering is about constant improvement and collaboration with others in
order to complete a task. I believe from what I have learned in humanities, that I will take more time
to put thought into what I am doing but also why I am doing it. As well as getting others perspectives
that will allow me to make improvements that I did not see myself. Understanding Humanities, I
believe affects every job in some way. Every person must interact with other people in some way. We
do this in person or not in person. If you can better understand the why that people are then you can
better interact with them. I know personally understanding someone that is different means I can do
my job better than if I did not have that knowledge. I must understand multiple cultures in order to
communicate the most effective way to help my patients. I work nights so the resources available are
limited. I also must do this as quickly as I can because I know people are not in the hospital for fun. I
have learned over the years to notice subtle body language in order to help those that cannot
communicate in any other way. I know that most jobs were interpersonal interaction is involved it
takes a lot of time to become exceptionally good at quickly understanding other cultures. Frontline
workers benefit from studying Humanities as it helps them have better compassion. It also helps them
to see from different perspectives. This allows for better care to be given and to do so in a timelier
fashion. I think that this will make it so that more people can be helped. I find that the more I learn to
about humanities I can find good things that each patient can focus and discuss with me. This makes
their time go faster and better in the hospital.
The relevance of the humanities is significant and genuinely priceless. Humanities connect us with
other cultures and eras in history. Humanities help to give us a different perspective and look at
things from outside the box. d Thinking creatively, which is a result of humanities, is a powerful tool
in your career. d Objectivity and empathy are critical skills in the workplace, and the humanities help
teaches us both. I believe the perspective of the humanities can have a positive impact on my future
professional career because this teaches me how to understand humans better. Humanities study
aspects of human society and culture, and there are many different cultures and humans with different
personalities and more. No one person is the same, and through understanding humanities, and
applying this to my everyday life, I will understand each individual better. Understanding people is
wants and needs, and who they truly are is valuable. A person will want to interact with someone who
understands them more than someone who does not. People love feeling seen and heard, and the
perspective of humanities truly helps with that.
Humanities and the values that the subject area teaches to students are of relevance in a way that
these can be applied to practical situations and the workplace environment. Whether it is the business
arena or any other corporate workplace environment, humanities can be applied to enhance the
operations and outlook of an organization. For every organization, the fulcrum of operational
excellence is its manpower. Even with the use of technology, organizations will still need manpower
or humans (Hammarfelt, 2014). Human resource management in any sphere of the corporate world
needs the use of humanities principles. Apart from human resource management, there are other areas
where humanities can come into the application. In the current scenario, business and work are all
about building relations and capitalizing on them as a network. In this case, humanities and values of
the subject always have a scope of application.
Today, any work environment is a global and multicultural melting pot of skills and capabilities. A
person from one part of the world may collaborate with a person from a completely opposite part of
the world (Hammarfelt, 2014). In such cases, a professional with a strong knowledge of different
cultures and languages can create a fruitful, long-standing professional relationship with other
professionals. Today, when all of us are working through a remote professional ecosystem, the use of
humanities skills like language, cultural knowledge, and history can help us create better connections
and establish teamwork.
The use of humanities, its values and principles can be used in creating an equal and inclusive
environment at work. At a time where minor and major communities are coming at an equal pace
with representation, humanities help us respect the need for representation and create an inclusive
workspace for people (Hammarfelt, 2014). A deep understanding of humanities helps us remain in
the know of equality and human rights, which helps create a respectful and productive workspace for
diverse individuals.
The humanities also help inculcate the value of empathy which is very necessary when dealing with
human resources and different situations. Empathy can be exercised in many professional situations
to promote a healthy and productive workplace for all employees. Empathy not only allows us the
room to understand our colleague's perspective and broadens ours but also helps us understand the
customer mindset so that our organization can better serve the end-users. The exercise of empathy
improves not only operations but sales and bottom-line figures. The principles of humanities help in
the critical evaluation of a situation from a humane point of view to assess the real-time effect of any
decision on people associated with the situation. The use of humanities and its values helps improve
the decision-making process of an organization.
The lessons we can learn about ourselves, others, and the world we live in serve to make us more
well-rounded and introspective. Studying the humanities should make us feel closer as a species,
allowing us to understand each other. For instance, one of the works I chose for my exploration
document is Plato's The Allegory of the Cave. Reading, understanding, and examining that work
would be beneficial to nearly anyone because it would make them consider how society, knowledge,
and misinformation can shape our experience. I think studying humanities is studying what it means
to be human. Studying what is means to be human would lead to a more thoughtful, inclusive, and
cohesive society.
Making use of these principles in the workplace could look like a few things. For instance, taking the
time to step back and carefully view the work you are looking at. This is something we have done
frequently throughout this course, and that skill can be highly beneficial in the workplace. Studying
humanities also may help you form better bonds with your coworkers and give you an environment
you feel safe to do your work proficiently in. The humanities are incredibly important to my future
career and my current career as a small business owner. I am in school to get my degree in marketing
and in marketing, the humanities are used to reach a target audience and make them feel a certain way
about something specific. Getting a better understanding of the humanities and how to use them in
my future career is vital to my own personal success. When it comes to my current career, it's also
important because art affects people in different ways and I have to make sure that my work can be
interpreted in the way I meant it to be. The impact of humanities has many benefitable benefits for
my career path as I will be in Healthcare Administration. It helps me expand my knowledge of human
culture. Humanities gives me the understanding of the world we live in and the knowledge of what
brings us together and what makes us different. It will help with my communication skills and the
ability to express my viewpoints in situations. Humanities give me the tools on how to critical think.
Being able to receive and analyse knowledge and develop solutions to solve problems. The impact of
humanities just aids me in my career path but my personal life as well.
The study of Humanities includes but not limited to art, literature, history, philosophy, and ethics.
The perspective of the humanities can have a positive impact on my current profession (business
owner) and my current profession (business accountant) using literature and ethics. Literature
because it is hard for me to comprehend what I am reading. Owning a business, it’s a lot of
paperwork and understanding what I am reading. Humanities lets us look deeper into what we are
looking at and that is what I need to do to understand if my business is going to take off or fail. It's
not just about numbers and if I am making money. Ethics the discipline dealing with what is good
and bad and with moral duty and obligation. In my future profession of Business Accounting and
Finances, I believe this to be a great part of doing what is morally right as far as making sure that
these businesses are doing what they need to do and not causing fraud.
In my current career path, I think the perspective of humanities can help me to better understand how
to create the art that I want to. It can help me to convey complex emotions to the viewer and help me
to better convey the message that I want through the games I look to create. It is important for me to
be able to understand the kind of emotions that medium can play and how to use that to my advantage
to create things that I want to.
