MONUMENTS
The monument I have chosen is the Martin Luther King, JR Memorial titled ‘Out of the
Mountain of Despair, A Stone of Hope’. The monument is in Washington D.C. between the
Lincoln Memorial and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. The monument was given the
address 1964 Independence Ave, SW. as a reference to the year 1964, the year the Civil Rights
Act became law, thanks to the major impact Martin Luther King, JR had on the Civil Rights
movement. In order to design the monument, a design competition was held, and competitors
