From my understanding, the differences between the 3 types of
models are as follows:
1. Medical model: This looks at the illness or the symptoms and
looks for a cure. For example, deciphering the illness and
providing appropriate medication or treatment.
2. Public Health model: This model focuses on educating the
population and prevention of the illness. This is a multicausal
approach. For example, providing provisions for sanitation or
nutrition.
3. Human services model: This model focuses on the client which
can be an individual or a group and their environments. They
focus on how society, as a whole, should work together to solve
the problem. Their main concern is problem solving utilizing
social services available, for instance assistance with housing or
food.
