This week we read about the different models of service delivery.
We learned about the medical, public health, and human services
models. I will describe the differences I learned about the 3 services.
1. The medical model: This model views the people that seek this
service as people who are dealing with a disease or sickness.
The patients/clients are looking for a cure for an ailment. An
example of this would be you are sick and you go to see your
doctor for medication.
2. The Public Health model: This model resembles the medical
model in all ways except how the treatment is delivered. The
public health model focuses on group treatment instead of
individual treatment. This may resemble an AA meeting. Where
a group of people gather and treatment is delivered in a group.
3. The Human Services model: This model focuses more on
individuals and their environment. Helping individuals find the
balance between themselves and their environment. This model
is viewed as a problem-solving model rather than a medical one.
An example can be the unemployment office or a temp agency.
Helping individuals that may have lost their jobs.
