The three models of service delivery are:
The Medical Model: This model is most often used in medical
professions. This model is based on disease, illness, mental disorders,
medication, laboratory studies, and physical therapies. This model
focuses solely on the medical aspect of a problem. The Medical
Model is summarized by symptoms, diagnostics, treatment, and then
finally cure (Woodside & McClam, 2018). The medical model's school
of thought is that mental disorders are believed to be the product of
physiological factors and affect a person's ability to function. This
model creates a guide to explain these issues.
The Public Health Model: Focuses on groups of the population rather
than individuals (like the Medical Model). These groups consist of
communities, countries, regions, states, or cities. Within these groups
problems such as abuse, poverty, or illness can occur. The Public
Health Model views mental disorders as the results of malfunctions
and pressures created by society (Woodside & McClam, 2018).
Therefore, this method looks at society as a whole and how it is
affecting people. This model demonstrates how one person's
problems link to other social problems.
The Human Service Model: This model focuses on how individuals
react to their environment. The human service model is comprised of
services that aim to teach clients key problem-solving skills and
enhance their quality of life (Woodside & McClam, 2018). The Human
Service Model looks into issues related to living standards and
expectations and focuses on problems on a personal level. Figuring
out how to work with the environment and make changes for success
within the environment is the main focus of this theory.
All of these delivery methods are used today and can also be used in
conjunction for a more successful outcome.
