I believe every country should have an official language in some
capacity. Realistically some countries are so close and can intersect
customs and traditions, so it is also understandable of one of the
two does not have its own distinctive language. But that is where
dialects come into play.
At this point in the modern era, English has become one of the most
important languages to learn for everyday life. Therefore, you see
many countries teaching it within their school system I.e. Bahrain. It
has become vital with trade and relationship building across the
globe. In the same respect, I do not believe that it should be the
main international language. Each country has a pride built on its
own influence and reach out across the world and the language that
is represented is a part of it. I have not tried to learn the Arabic
language to date.
Each country should have an official language because the language
they speak is not only a form of expression, the language could also
represent culture. There is a need to preserve languages because
there are always languages that die out with people in certain
demographics. To speak a native language allows for the story of
forefathers to be relayed throughout generations without the
meanings being lost in translation. So yes every country should have
an official language.
Are some languages are more important than others?Should English
be the main 'international language', if so why in America people
judge people by their fluency in English?
Technically every language is important but the world we live in
today used to focus on people learning English because it was
considered the business language. However large populations in
countries like China may soon change that. Currently, their are more
native speakers of English than actual speakers. China is a major
power in production of goods and they are buying assets around the
world. They have the biggest population so eventually, it may be a
good practice to learn the Chinese language because to be
successful, learning the language may be beneficial in the long run.
Americans who don't travel abroad or have limited access to people
who speak languages other than English are closed-minded. They
live in a comfort zone where they feel that they are more civilized
since they speak the English language. Some don't realize that a
person who doesn't speak English well may have 2-3 other
languages under their belt. English still has a stronghold in business
and should be taught at all schools but that is just how th9ings are
now and are subject to change with the emergence of a more
dominant population.
Have you tried to learn Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, and Turkish? If yes
let us know about your experience? What you think about Arabic
Televisions such as Aljazeera?
I have attempted to learn Arabic and with dedication and drive, it
isn't a difficult language to learn. Television outlets like Al Jazeera
aren't a good reference when it comes to news facts. Sometimes
facts are not represented well and the backing of the outlet is
questionable. As far as Arabic television shows, they are more
censored than in some other countries. They limit the content in the
stories because it should be tasteful content and with the teachings
of the Quran.
