The role of the project manager is very detailed orientated. It
honestly from the research I have done for our final project to this
post it takes someone very detailed oriented. Someone who can
trouble shoot, essentially a person who has a plan for a plan. The best
tool that seems to be a favorite when searching tools for project
management is the S.W.O.T analysis tool. The acronym stands for:
S- Strengths
W-Weaknesses
O-Opportunities
T-Threats
This completely makes sense when planning any type of project or
even a merger such as this. This type of analysis is a framework for
identifying the strengths that each campus has, what the weaknesses
are where are the best opportunities and what are the threats. All of
this allows a project manager to plan for anything and everything. I
like to think of this type of planning as planning for the worst hoping
for the best. Being a project manager in this capacity bringing
together not one or two but three very different HIM departments
that are all on different levels with policies and procedures is one
heck of an undertaking. So, utilizing tools such as the S.W.O.T is
about the only way a merger like this would happen efficiently and
seamlessly.
