Strategic planning is the first step in achieving project success, and it’s an
important component of every successful project. Strategic planning helps
identify goals and objectives for projects, as well as develop plans to achieve
them. b Developing a strategic plan involves determining what you want your
outcomes to be before you start executing on steps that will take you there.
Creating a SMART goal, which was done during the execution of the
Gateway project, is a great example of strategic planning. It should be done by
detailing all plans developed through the strategic planning process, including
action plans for each objective as well as contingency measures in case they
fail. It is important to review this document before finalizing it so that any
changes can be made beforehand.
Effective strategic project managers evaluate the tools and techniques used by
their organization to manage projects. By ensuring that the applications
provide the benefits and features required by the organization, they help
ensure data integrity, assure scheduling accuracy, and maintain consistency
throughout the organization.
