Cultural diversity education must be implemented at Gateway Healthcare System
because it promotes a more inclusive environment, equality, and sensitivity to
prevent discrimination and harassment. It also creates a better collaborative
environment by accommodating differences, bringing a unique perspective on the
problem, identifying more solutions, reducing bias, and increasing accountability.
All three hospitals in the Gateway Health System should have the same standards
for cultural diversity education plans.
The cultural diversity education plan should consist of:
• Addressing the different cultural diversity issues in respectful and positive
interactions in the workplace while reducing discrimination and prejudice based
on factors such as gender, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, age, religion, physical
and mental ability, and socioeconomic status.
• The training should reflect the vision, mission, and goals of Gateway Healthcare
Systems.
• Offering a series of employee engagement programs, events, mentoring
opportunities, and other experiences for continual learning. This will reinforce the
diversity message to everyone.
• Create an interactive training method such as incorporating realistic scenarios
and allowing employees to engage, shorter training courses throughout the year,
and e-learning.
• Training should be a part of new employees’ onboarding process
• Mandatory training will be implemented regularly for all Gateway Healthcare
Systems employees
Diversity can enhance quality and efficiency by sharing different perspectives and
approaches to solving problems, increasing productivity.
