ICD stands for International Classification of Disease. There over 90 countries across the
globe participate in the ICD method of classifying diseases. In order for a system to work
in such a widespread manor would need to have detail guidelines and standard languages.
If there is a country that is looking for a classification system. ICD would solid and
sustainable classification method. According to the WHO “It is the foundation for
identifying health trends and statistics worldwide, containing around 17 000 unique codes
for injuries, diseases and causes of death, underpinned by more than 120 000 codable
terms.” (WHO, 2022). ICD-11 now has a fully digital version. This will reduce the risk of
human errors. The use of ICD-11 has improvements over ICD-10 to capture medical new
medicine and advances in technology. It also adds information to cover the covid -19
pandemic. The ICD-11 revision was to simplify coding and provide an electronic tool.
There also have been adoption of mor mental health issues that support recent named
diagnoses. Overall, the adoption of ICD-11 would be beneficial to any country and
especially to one that does not currently have one in place so that they may have a
sustainable and internationally used classification system.
