Some improvements made ICD11 are "it is now entirely digital with a new user-
friendly format and multilingual capabilities that reduce the chance of error."
Another improvement is that ICD 11 has input from providers from over 90
countries. ICD 11 also improves the transparency of terms and allows more
detail to codes. In addition to these advances, ICD 11 has updated diagnostic
recommendations for mental health problems and digital documentation of
covid 19 certificates. Some good qualities would be that it includes input from
other countries. This makes ICD 11 easier to apply to other regions. It also
features multilingual capabilities which is another good quality that would
make other countries have an easier time understanding the system and using
it to meet their needs. The improvements made to the ICD-11 coding system
seem to be well thought out and beneficial to the healthcare world. This new
11th revision of International Classification of Diseases is entirely digital; it
contains 17,000 unique codes and more than 120,000 codable terms. Are now
35 countries are using ICD-11. The good news about the ICD-11 revision is that
it will is accessible to everybody.
This new revision also has a multilingual browser and coding tool. It includes,
rare disease coding, supports perinatal and maternal coding, grade and stage
coding for cancers. The ICD-11 system also covers primary care, dermatology,
causes of death, patient safety, cancer registration, vaccine status, test results,
COVID-19 vaccination status, pain documentation, reimbursement, data
dictionaries and clinical documentation, and even more perks. The country
should adopt ICD-11 because it has: clinical terms, record surveillance, public
health, cause of death, mix-case costing resources, (DRG), cancer registration,
patient safety, drug safety, device safety, primary care, preventive and
research, functioning assessment, decision support. As per the World Health
Organization (WHO) published report, the International Classification of
Diseases (ICD-11) is defined as the 11th edition of a worldwide categorization
system for mental and physical illnesses. The revised version of the ICD-10 is
called the ICD-11. In two decades, the first developed update was to be
published. The revised version ensures the reusability of recorded data and
semantic interoperability for various usage rather than health statistics,
including resource allocation, decision support, guidelines, reimbursement,
and many more. Moreover, the report of the WHO explains the ICD-11 allows
the systematic interpretation, recording, comparison, and analysis of morbidity
and mortality data collected in various regions or countries at different timings
(World Health Organization, 2021). This 11th edition of International
Classification of Diseases is developed to translate the health problems and
diagnoses of diseases into allowing storage, alphanumeric codes, analysis of
the data, and retrieval.
The ICD-11 legally mandates the WHO Constitution and Nomenclature
Regulations standards. The current highlight shows that the ICD-11 would be
effective from January 2022 that includes up-to-date scientific knowledge, end-
to-end digital solution (tools, API, offline and online), integration of
classification and terminology, conceptual framework independent of culture
and language, accessible to anyone, and comparable semantic and statistics
interoperability for 150 years (World Health Organization, 2021). The ICD-11
enables the counting of encounters and traditional medicine services for the
first time. This 11th edition of a worldwide categorization system is classified
based upon the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 IGO license. This
revision has great implications and a more intensive focus on the International
Classification of Diseases (World Health Organization, 2021).
Every country would be beneficial with the adoption of alphanumeric codes
and analysis of the data. This coding system can help for monitoring of rising
incidence and prevalence of diseases, general health situations analysis in a
specific population, and examining other health problems in terms of
circumstances and characteristics of the affected persons. Moreover, the
coding system of ICD 11 is the best suitable for the financial aspect of studies in
the health care system, for example, resource allocation and billing. The
majority of the global health resources can be allocated with the use of ICD 11.
The ICD users can be the nurses, physicians, researchers, health care providers,
coders, health information management professionals, analysts, health
information technology workers, patient organizations, policymakers, insurers,
and many more. All across the world, people can get benefits from this
healthcare allocation. In addition, it has been developed in a way to be set up
at different levels y following the specific WHO Constitution and Nomenclature
Regulations standards (World Health Organization, 2021).
