Now that you have learned about the purpose, policies, standards, and
technologies that make up a health information exchange system, it is time
to assemble that knowledge into an effective leadership plan for the
adoption of an HIE.
Your final project will be composed from the perspective of a health
information manager. You will assess the organizational environment along
with the models, architecture, and pros and cons of various types of HIEs to
determine what is most suitable to meet the organization’s needs. You will
need to focus on HIE elements such as interoperability, technologies, and
communication, as well as the standards and policies that govern these.
Your evaluation will reflect your comprehension of the content presented in
this course. The scenario represents real-world responsibilities of and
interactions experienced by HIM professionals. Your ability to synthesize
the material and develop an effective action plan will be valuable practice
for actual situations you may encounter in the health information
management field.
