I think the evolutions of technology in the health industry is
continuing to grow along with the role of the HIM professional. a The
role has already morphed into a more technology driven role working
with IT to build electronic health record systems and helping to shape
standards, data vocabularies and nomenclature. I envision the role of
the HIM professional to continue to evolve as new technology is
implemented into the health care system and HIEs, with smart
devices having more and more apps to track your personal health that
is a major resource of information that should be incorporated into
the patients’ health records. Natural language continues to grow and
get better, artificial learning is continuing to grow and improve and
because of Covid telehealth medicine increased and who know in the
future even holograms could be a new way for patients to be seen.
The future of technology is growing at a rapid pace and the HIM
profession needs to keep up.
