Three topics covered in the course that can be applied in a healthcare facility are revenue
cycle, prospective payment plans, and performance incentives. The concept of revenue cycle
management can be applied to streamline financial activities such as collecting payments and
generating revenue for the facility. The prospective payment plan (PPS) refers to a method of
reimbursement in which the Medicare payment that is made is based upon a predetermined and
fixed value (Prospective payment systems - general information. CMS, 2020). i This method can be
applied in the healthcare setting to maintain uniformity in the payment that is given to healthcare
practitioners for delivering specific kinds of care services. The adoption of this method is
considered to be extremely useful for healthcare facilities as it can assist both service providers as
well as insurers to effectively manage and estimate the payments and costs (Prospective payment
systems - general information. CMS, 2020). Another important topic that was covered in the
course was related to the concept of performance incentives. Performance incentives can be
defined as the rewards that are given to employees in an organizational setting if they meet or
exceed a certain standard in an assigned task (Hur et al., 2018). In a healthcare facility, the
performance incentive mechanism can be adopted in order to encourage healthcare practitioners
such as physicians, and nurses to improve their quality of delivered care so that the health outcome
of patients could be enhanced.
In diverse courses that are required for the healthcare degree, such as nursing, public
health, etc., these learned concepts could be adopted to increase the effectiveness of financial or
performance aspects in the area. For example, in the nursing course, the performance incentive
method could act as a vital tool that would motivate nurses to improve their performance while
delivering care to vulnerable individuals. Similarly, the adoption of the revenue cycle or

prospective payment plan concepts could facilitate the effective management of financial
