IDS-150 Module 1
Sarah Shoemate
Explain what sustainability means to you?
To me, sustainability embodies the principle of fulfilling current needs without jeopardizing the
capacity of future generations to satisfy their own requirements. A practical illustration of this
concept is the conscious choice to avoid single-use items, such as plastic water bottles,
disposable dishes, and straws, which contribute to environmental degradation and resource
depletion.
Describe how considering sustainability affects your daily life.
Incorporating sustainability into my daily routine significantly influences my choices,
particularly regarding hydration. Given my high consumption of water and coffee, I prioritize
using reusable containers over disposable ones. This shift not only reduces waste but also fosters
a more environmentally conscious mindset, encouraging me to consider the broader implications
of my consumption habits. By opting for reusable options, I contribute to minimizing plastic
pollution and promote a sustainable lifestyle that aligns with my values.
Describe how your daily actions and behaviors can impact the environment.
Daily actions and behaviors significantly influence the environment, with both positive and
negative consequences. On the positive side, adopting sustainable practices can reduce the
amount of waste sent to landfills, ultimately leading to a decrease in environmental pollution and
potential cost savings. However, these eco-friendly choices can also present challenges, such as
inconveniences related to hygiene and the risk of contamination. Additionally, the time required
for cleaning and preparing reusable items may deter some individuals from fully committing to
these practices. Balancing these factors is essential for fostering a more sustainable lifestyle.
