Writing Plan
1. Describe the to be addressed in your persuasive essay. Explain how the argument
argument relates to your major, the major you are considering pursuing, or your field of
work.
A. Ensure that your topic is debatable. Are you able to see at least two perspectives
to this argument?
For my persuasive essay, I have chosen to discuss the topic of addiction treatment within the
criminal justice system. My stance is in favor of rehabilitation of drug offenders; however, I will
also examine the opposing side: incarceration of drug offenders.
2. Identify the potential challenges you may encounter in supporting your argument with a
specific audience.
A. First, state the audience you will be writing to.
B. Then address the challenges of supporting your argument with this audience.
The audience that I will be writing to is those that either disagree with focusing on the
rehabilitation of drug offenders or may be ignorant on the subject. When addressing this
audience, it is paramount that I take into consideration any opposing arguments that may be
