English Composition I
Dear Susan,
I hope this letter finds you in good spirits. It has been so long since we have spoken
last. I do hope that you have been taking good care of yourself while you are away at college.
I am writing this letter to not only check up on you but also to discuss something extremely
imperative. I have recently learned that mental well-being is usually not considered as
important as physical well-being. Mental wellbeing is an essential part of our overall health.
However, the stigma and the shame associated with it has affected the lives of many. I do
hope that you are not one of those people who believed in the stigma associated with mental
health. In any case, if you do, I hope that this letter will help me persuade you otherwise.
It is necessary to mention that while I understand that physical well-being is
extremely necessary for a person’s overall growth and development, mental well-being is
equally important. I would like to mention that while physical well-being allows us to
commit to physical activities such as running errands, doing our daily chores, working out,
etc., mental well-being helps us process those activities efficiently. I believe that mental
well-being does not only limit itself to being okay mentally but it also includes the proper
comprehension of emotions. By taking care of our mental health, we equip ourselves to lead a
balanced life as we keep in touch with our emotions while also managing our stress.
The stigma associated with mental health has hindered people from talking about it
