The positive impact of social media on adolescents

In recent times, social media has become extremely imperative aspect of life. This
essentially elucidates the fact that social media plays a vital role in the complete development
of an individual. The influence of social media has both positive and negative impacts upon
life. In regards to adolescents, social media has become a constant in their lives. This makes
them an easy target when it comes to influence of social media within their lives. The
argumentative essay will elaborate upon the positive impact of social media on adolescents.
It is imperative to state that social media has both positive and negative elements.
This suggests that concerning the youth, social media can be used negatively. This mainly
illuminates the idea that not only does social media distract the youth from their usual
responsibilities in life but it also disrupts their daily schedule such as their sleep patterns
(Akram). This affects their ability to study, their need for physical activities such as sports,
their communication skills, etc. Additionally, it is also important to state that using social
media irresponsibly could also expose the youth to different forms of social misconduct such
as bullying, rumours spreading, etc. Furthermore, social media is also renowned for
glorifying unrealistic perceptions of other people’s lives. This primarily addresses the fact
that due to the impressionable mindset of adolescents; it is extremely detrimental for them to
witness and observe such unrealistic views of other people’s lives on the Internet (Lavis).
