1. Do you agree or disagree with the author's assertions
regarding seasonal employees and cybersecurity risks in the
work place? Why?
Seasonal jobs may create opportunities for some looking to make
a couple extra bucks during peak times. This is where the risk for
property both physical and digital can be at risk. It is riskier
because of the temporary role workers will have with a company.
I most certainly agree with Bonderud “hiring the right people is
only half the battle. Disgruntled staff may try to take whatever
they can from employers before there time is up.” (Bonderud,
2016).
2. What steps can (should) managers take to reduce security
risks associated with hiring seasonal or temporary
employees? (Consider whether or not the Secure Computer
User training course would be appropriate for these
employees.)
The onboarding process is a great first step. As mentioned in the
previous response. Allocating the level of permissions or
privileges to the correct employees is required. Temporary roles
should have some type of sandbox or limited type of access to
assets, data, or properties. For example, delivery operators role
may not require them to access computers. They may have
mobile devices that can be locked down to access only what
they need, perhaps through an application. However, computer
operators that may be isolated at times will need to go through a
series of computer user training courses. As well as limited
access to files and resources while on a domain.
3. How can managers show leadership in the area of
cybersecurity defenses and best practices?
Managers can show leadership in cybersecurity through
implementation and knowledge base. It is important for cyber
security professionals to be updated and to be informed in the
latest trends in cyber security. Implementing best practices will
play a key role in leadership to other employers or organizations.
