Why this court jurisdiction exists The juvenile court system exists as an alternative to
rehabilitate youth instead of housing them with adult
offenders. One of the primary purposes of the juvenile
justice system is focusing on rehabilitation rather than
punishment. The hope of this specialized court is to
reestablish the adolescent by using a restorative approach,
with the expectation that the juvenile will transform into a
productive member of society and will have no future
contact with the criminal justice system.
