Improving Patient Safety in my Facility
I will be cautious in preventing central line-associated blood stream contaminations and
infections by taking 5 key steps each time a central venous catheter is inserted, and these steps
include washing hands, using whole barrier precautions, using chlorhexidine to clean the skin,
avoiding femoral lines, and get rid of unnecessary lines. Consistently following these steps will
improve patient safety (AHRQ, 2015). The other thing I would do is to follow evidence-based
principles for health care facility design to improve patient quality and safety. I will address
patient falls by providing properly designed patient bathrooms and rooms and set up
decentralized stations for nurses that enable easy access to patients. I will also improve patient
safety by providing single-bed rooms, and ensure that air filtration systems are properly working.
Lastly, I will address medication errors by providing pharmacists, private, quiet and well-lit
spaces to allow them fill prescriptions with zero or minimal distractions.
