I have struggled with Powerpoints because it is not something that I
was raised up with. I have learned that I need to limit putting to much
writing in the presentation. I need to keep my audience captive by
adding some color to each slide. The presentation should keep my
audience interested and not zone them out. b We need to draw our
audience in, and make sure that the information that we are presenting
is relevant to them. b No one wants to sit through a lengthy presentation
that has nothing to do with them.
I will be discussing adult obesity and the diseases that it can contribute
to. b Every state in America deals with this. b European countries feel that
everyone in the United States is obese. b This was recently pointed out
to me when my son and daughter-in-law ordered clothing from Europe
to attend Octoberfest while they are in Germany. My daughter-in-law
is very petite, but the dress that she ordered did not fit. As a whole we
as Americans, need to work on how others view us and stay fit and
active.
There was much included in the “Designing an Effective PowerPoint
Presentation: Quick Guide Document and Gateway to Health
Communication: Know Your Audience” that I found to be beneficial.
Much of the information will greatly assist me in improving my
effective communication skills in the development of my presentation.
My chosen issue is the mental health of the homeless community in
New York City. My target audience is the local stakeholders such as
community services and organizations. I am advocating for the
association and involvement with one another to come together for the
benefit of the homeless community. Throughout the suggested
PowerPoint this week, there were many ideas for my presentation that
I gathered. One thing that I want to really focus on is my specific
audience. I have a very specific and targeted audience. I want to use
language and data that will directly grasp the interest of this audience.
Due to the fact that they are already involved in this line of work, using
this detailed data will be useful in communicating my ideas and plan.
One example from the presentation that I will be intentional about is
the arrangement of my information. I want to carefully order and
arrange the included information to stand out even more to my
audience. I really enjoyed the information in the presentation and know
it will improve and benefit my final presentation.
