One of the ways Starbucks promotes CSR initiatives is through their
sourcing standards of sustainably grown and processed coffee.
Starbucks sourced from over 400,000 farmers in more than 30
countries (Starbucks, 2020), so the company understands the
importance of having ethical sourcing standards that help sustain the
future of farmers and the environment. The company partnered up
with Conservation International as a result they came up with Coffee
and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E) Practices, a verification program that
measures farms against economic, social, and environmental criteria
(Starbucks,2020). This program helps to improve working condition
for farmers, their communities, and promote sustainable growing
practices. The new product that I am proposing will be aligned with
these practices by sourcing from farmers in the area to help promote
local products. By following the C.A.F.E. practices will ensure that we
are sourcing the produce from farms that supports the Starbucks’
social responsibility of providing a safe, fair, and humane work
environment for their workers, and this also includes access to
medical care and education.
I plan to attract employees by raising awareness to initiatives and
practices such as C.A.F.E., this will attract people who have the same
beliefs as the company and would want to further support these
efforts. Additional training to expand their education and enhance
their careers will also be provided to develop the team’s full
potential. Lastly, to engage the team, open communication will be
encouraged and one on one meetings with the project manager will
be consistent to grow trust and maintain relationship.
