Walmart is the company I chose to research. i They have the belief that
Walmart is stronger as a company when people are heard, included, and
empowered. (Walmart, n.d.). With this mindset they have donated and
set back millions of dollars to build up these types of programs for
employees and communities in the areas of research, advocacy, and
new ways to break down the barriers. The FY2022 Midyear Report
shows Walmart continues to grow in the area of DEI and Racial Equity.
There are employees of all ages, backgrounds, and disabilities. Also, in
the report it shows the number of employees, their job rank, and the
race for all employees. To me, this is making great strides in
transparency for the company.
To set up a DEI team, it would be a group of diverse individuals selected.
Age, race, gender, or religious beliefs would all be things needed to
assemble the team. i We are all equal in the group. It would be promoted
as a “safe place” to create better lives for employees and the
communities they live. Everyone would have a say.
In the area of CSR, I feel Walmart could do much better. They have it
posted on the website that they are creating a positive impact on the
global supply chain. i They are focused on climate, nature, waste, and
people, but I do feel that profit is more important in the long run. i At
least, that is the image I have of Walmart in the market. There are so
many suppliers that Walmart could not check each of their
backgrounds.
Walmart+ would promote corporate social responsibility in many
areas. Access to affordable, quality food and other essentials at low
prices, employee training and development, invest in local suppliers,
disaster response, supporting local organizations and causes, and
paying taxes to help support the communities. The carbon emissions
would drop by making fewer trips to the store. Everything you need
can be ordered at one time and delivered to the consumer. i More
employees would be needed to fill the jobs Walmart+ will create. This
helps families to build dignity by earning a paycheck. This can be the
first steps to a career at Walmart for many.
