Starbucks has always been committed to creating a community where
everyone feels welcome and respected, and they have continued to
promote this in their stores and through their corporate social
responsibility (CSR) initiatives. They have set clear goals and standards
to demonstrate focus and commitment to DEI, information on their
efforts is also made available to the public. Starbucks has created
internal governance structure to incorporate Inclusion and Diversity
throughout the organization.
To help the company develop a strategic vision to ensure diversity,
inclusivity, and equity, they have hired two executive leaders as Chief
Inclusion & Diversity Officers. To incorporate DEI in their culture, they
have launched multiple programs to promote employee retention and
development. One of the many projects they’ve developed is a
mentorship program connecting Black, Indigenous, People of Color
(BIPOC) employees to senior leaders or directors in both corporate and
retail roles (Starbucks, 2020). Starbucks has incorporated
measurements focused on building inclusive and diverse teams into
their compensation program.
Starbucks serves over 30,000 communities and they are committed to
promoting equity in those communities through initiatives, such as
providing $1.5M grants to nonprofits that help organizations led by and
supports Black Americans (Starbucks, 2020). They are also giving $5M
to develop a two-year initiative focused on supporting serving BIPOC
youth (Starbucks, 2020).
Starbucks’ mission is “to inspire and nurture the human spirit – one
person, one cup and neighborhood at a time” (Starbuck, 2015). The
product aligns with the company’s initiative and mission to improve the
communities they served by providing a healthier way for their
customers to nurture and enhance their overall wellbeing. The
ingredients that will be used for the wellness shots will also be sourced
locally, to help local farmers in the community. This new product will
allow the company to remain competitive in today’s market most
