I cannot answer definitively on behalf of all business sectors, but I do
believe that there are several regulations that are overcontrolling for
companies. While I’m sure there are some that may have appropriate
intentions, I feel that the majority of overcontrolling regulations are in
place simply to benefit unrelated parties. Some regulations seem to
be in place simply because a business exists and the regulators want
an easy way to snag some of the profit.
What I do not agree with in the associated article is the companies
complaining about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and
how “the restrictions are costly and compromise profits” (Davis,
2022). a Regulations such as this are essential and help to ensure the
health of our planet; complaining about not making as much profit in
this case isn’t a good look. This is obviously one of the regulations
that benefits society, not to mention the globe.
I believe there are regulations that are well placed and have the best
interest of either the businesses or the consumers in mind, but I also
feel that the article was accurate in stating that “governments also
have a long history of trapping nations into patterns of long-term
decline through overregulation” (Davis, 2022).
