I. Defining Anthropology: What is anthropology? Discuss how the field is the sum of all
its parts as you consider people and their complexities. How do all the subfields work
together to form the field of anthropology?
A. Anthropology is defined as “the study of human beings, their biology, their
prehistory and histories, and their changing languages, cultures, and social
institutions” (Welsch et al., 2019, p. 4). In addition to concentrating on where
humans have been, anthropology presents awareness that aids in solving human
dilemmas in the present day. Within anthropology, there are five subfields: 1)
cultural anthropology; 2) physical anthropology; 3) archaeology, 4) linguistics,
and 5) applied anthropology. A cultural anthropologist is one that aims attention
toward the social interactions of subsisting communities. Next are archaeologists,
who examine prior cultures by uncovering locations where people lived, worked,
or farmed. Third is physical anthropology, also known as biological anthropology.
Physical anthropologists fixate on the biological and biocultural facets of the
human collection in the past or present. The fourth subfield is linguistics.
Linguistic anthropology analyzes how people correspond amongst one another
