Defining Anthropology
Anthropology is described as the " investigation of people, including their biology, their
civilizations and the pasts and their developing cultures, customs, and social frameworks
(Welsch et al., 2020)". Four subfields of anthropology exist:
1. Cultural anthropology-Cultural anthropology examines aspects of cultural life and human
communities.
2. Archaeology-Archaeology investigates historical populations and cultures.
3. Biological anthropology: This field of study focuses on evolution, genetics, and human
health.
4. Language in Society is the main topic of linguistic anthropology, a subfield of cultural
anthropology.
