The Internal Auditor at Work. This article takes a deeper dive into the
different aspects of being an auditor. Similar to an external auditor,
the internal auditor works to evaluate data to mitigate risks within
the company. The biggest difference between the internal and
external auditor is who the work for. The internal auditor works for
the company they are auditing while and external auditor usually
works for an audit firm. External auditors are CPA that are appointed
by the shareholders of the company. Another difference is the
requirements for documentation. Internal auditors have very lenient
processes for documenting their audit findings. These are just based
on the preference of the auditor's employer because they are just
used by management. External auditors must answer to the investors
of the company as well as other government entities so they must
follow rules and regulations regarding their documentation. These
are just a few differences between internal and external auditors.
